Match 37
27th February 1996
Northampton T (h)
Tuesday 27th February 1996.
Third Division.
EXETER CITY 1
NORTHAMPTON TOWN 2
A much improved performance by the Cry did not get it's just rewards as Northampton snatched a last gasp winner in injury time through Nel Grayson.
Northampton had taken the lead after 38th minute when a close range header from Ray Warburton just crossed the line despite the attempted save by Peter Fox Within 60 seconds however City were back on terms and what a superb goal it was. A frag-kick was cleared by Northampton, only for the ball to fall for Mark Gavin who valcyed in a tamtic shot into the top corner of the net.
City enjoyed the lions share of the play in the second half and certainly deserved a share of the points at the very least, but in the final moments cl the game, Grayson broke clear on the lett and unleashed a shot from the edge of the area for an undeserved winner.
