26th March 1996
Scunthorpe Athletic (a)

Tuesday 26th March

Endsleigh Insurance League
Third Division

Scunthorpe United 4
Exeter City 0

It all went wrong for Exeter City in the second hall, after an encouraging opening 45 minutes described by player-manager Peter Fox as being one of the best of the season.

The Grecians could have gone into the half-time interval in front, with one effort in particular from Mark Cooper going inches wide of the target. Leon Braithwaite also had the ball in the net only for the 'goal' to be ruled out for an offside infringement. Scunthorpe hit Exeter hard at the start of the second hall and after Fox had made a good stop frum Andy McFarlane, it was John Eyre who gave the home team the lead in the 50th minute

Five minutes later Tony Ford scored a second with an overhead kick and from then on it was always going to be an uphill battle for the Grecians. Having said that, Adrian Foster missed a good opportunity to reduce the arrears when his shot from 10 yards was kept out by Mark Samways

Scunthorpe went 3-0 up in th 69th minute as giant striker McFarlane headed his 10th goal of the season. City's misery was complete a minute before the end when Eyre scored with an angled drive
