Match 44
30th March 1996
Barnet (h)

Saturday 30th March

Endsleigh Insurance League
Third Division

Exeter City 1 Barnet 0

The goal that won the game looked Intally out of place to at that had gone on before it as far as Exeter City were concerned The Grecians had an off day, and in the opening 45 minutes was probably the worst display of the season at the Park, as Barnet bossed the proceedings from start to finish.

After a half-time talk by Peter Fox and Noel Blake, City improved ather the break and started to cause a few problems for the Bamet defence I should have bean all over by then though, as Bamet, had they taken al their first half chances, would have held a comfortable lead.

Exeter once again showed their battling qualities and came through their bad patch, although with ome rapidly running out a goalless draw looked on the cards. Then with three minutes remaining. Richard Pears controlled a John Sharpe thrown on his chest, swiveled and cracked in a superb shot into the far comer of the

net for a goal of stunning quality Even then, Barnet almost snatched an equaliser, but it was not to be and whilst the Londoners were left to ponder how they didn't win the game, City kept their play-off hopes lingering on, even though the overall performance left a lot to be desired
