The Grecians produced a tremendous batting defensive performance, but were unable to hold out for the full 90 minutes against a side with promotion in their sights

Exeter showed an abundance of determination and looked set for a share of the points until Wigan's Mark Leonard snatched the winter with nine minutes remaining Peter Fax could anly parry a shot from Wayne Biggins and Leonard was on the spot to follow up and score.

Little was seen of City as an attacking force, with play concentrated in medfield and in the Grecians penalty area. Fox was in superb form whist the woodwork also saved the side on a couple of occasions.
