BBC match report –

Swansea City continue their poor form away from home after a 1-0 defeat by Exeter at St James Park.

The home side created the better chances and should have won far more comfortably, as the two sides battled it out for the all important points.

With both clubs languishing near the bottom of the league, Swansea looked to have done enough to hold out for a much-needed point.

However, Exeter were awarded an indirect free-kick inside the penalty area after a foul on Santos Gaia.

Carl Pettefer rolled a short pass to Andy Roscoe and he ferociously drove the ball into the back of the net.

The Swans' closest attempt at goal was a close-range header by substitute Steve Watkin. The veteran saw his header fly just over the crossbar.

Swansea are still to win a game away from home.

Exeter: Miller, Hiley, Pilkington, Gaia, Roscoe, McConnell, Thomas, Ampadu, Pettefer, Coppinger, Flack. Subs: Fraser, Virgo, Breslan, Moor, Lock.

Swansea: Freestone, Evans, Tate, O'Leary, Howard, Britton, Mumford, Phillips, Wood, Murphy, Thomas. Subs: Jenkins, Theobald, Watkin, Reid, Stiens.

Referee: G Hegley (Hertfordshire)
