BBC match report –
New loan signing Scott Partridge fired the only goal of the game to secure a 1-0 win for Exeter over fellow strugglers Carlisle.
Partridge, on loan from Rushden & Diamonds, converted a simple chance with a little help from fellow new-boy Sean Devine.
Devine, a recent signing from Wycombe, whipped in a pinpoint cross on the hour and Partridge rose above the visiting defence to head home what proved to be the winner.
Exeter were clearly second best in the early exchanges, but Neil McNab's side found their form after a disappointing first half in which Carlisle made all the running.
The visitors were left to rue a succession of wasted chances in the opening period with only keeper Kevin Miller keeping them at bay.
Exeter: Miller, Pettefer, Hiley, Gaia, Virgo, Power, Thomas, Cronin, Devine, Flack, Partridge. Subs: Fraser, Walker, Moor, McConnell, Coppinger.
Carlisle: Glennon, Shelley, Kelly, Murphy, Byrne, McGill, McDonagh, Hudson, Rundle, Burt, Farrell. Subs: Keen, Gulliver, Maddison, Baldacchino, Russell.
