Dave Merris earned York three priceless points with the only goal against a dominant Exeter side.

Merris crashed the ball into the bottom corner from Paul D Robinson's pass on 62 minutes to move his side nine points clear of the relegation zone.

Gareth Sheldon tested York keeper Chris Porter three times inside the opening 10 minutes.

Sean Devine hit the woodwork for the home side while Porter also kept out efforts from Afful and Taylor.
