ACE BRESLAN OFF THE MARK

Exeter 2 Carlisle 0
Saturday 29 August 1998

GEOFF BRESLAN, Exeter's 18-year-old local discovery, capped this convincing win with his first League goal. Carlisle early burst blew itself out and Exeter took control with their best football of the season. Breslan, who lives just down the road in Teignmouth, took time off from his dominating role in midfield to slip through the visitors' defence to fire home a 25-yarder. Rowbotham saw a diving header go just wide, and Fry had one effort turned away for a corner by goalkeeper Caig before the Carlisle defence cracked Substitute striker Flack had been on the pitch less than two minutes when he dived headlong to nod home Gittens's flick from Fry's corner.
