There were not a great many spectators, but the match was contested keenly with several exciting passages. Soon after the restart Exeter began to press and there was a strong wind blowing, the play was mostly confined to the higher touchline, Getting well up to the Artillery goal, Potter receiving the ball nd from a very awkward angle near the touchline obtained the first goal for the United with a magnificent shot, Thefestart saw Exeter again get the advantage, but Thorne well releived with a fine kick, Coles scored for the United from a corner, and very shortly afterwards Kemble got another goal, The Artillery scored their goal in the 2nd half.

Scorers
Exeter:-Kemble 2, Potter R, Potter E,

This was Exeter United's first League match. The visitors started the game, but Coles made an interception and found touch in midfield, Exmouth pressed with Palmer and Hurford beating Harvey, but Simmons cleared, Long exchange kicks were then indulged in and Roberts missed a good chance of scoring for Exeter, then a good save was made by Thompson against the onslaught of Kemble and Potter. The ball was then sent down the wing by Pickering and R. Potter centred well, but his namesake blundered, and Chappell cleared, Wallace then made an attempt with a long shot, but Chappell with a fine header out of the goalmouth averted danger, Exeter then made anothervigerous attempt to score, and Harvey drove hard for goal. This was stopped by Thompson, but he fell over in doing so, and Kemble rushed up and put the ball in the net. A few minutes later R, Potter sent in the 2nd goal, Exmouth made a few creditable dashes, but their combination was lacking, and the Exeter defence was sure, The Citizens pressed immediately on the start of the 2nd half, and Kemble scored their 3rd goal, Simmons fisted out a baffling shot from the Exmouth Inside Left and shortly before time E. Potter rushed in the 4th goal for Exeter, receiving from Coles after a transfer from R, Potter, Darkness then prevented spectators from watching either the players or the ball.

WEDNESDAY 25th OCTOBER 1999
Exmouth 0
Exeter United 0

This match was played on Wednesday in Mr Titt's field, before a good gate, and after some well-contested play the game ended in a pointless draw. For the homsters Thompson, Searle, Chappell, Southwell and Barnes, worked well.

College Berry 2,
Exeter Coles, Roberts,

The game was fast and furious throughout despite the wet state of the ground. Soon after the start Berry succeeded in getting through twice for the College, but this did not dishearten the Exeter team, and Coles and Roberts levelled the scores. Both teams fought hard to the finish, and although Exeter were without Mermogen, R, Potter and Pickering, their defence was equal to the Collegians attacking power,

SATURDAY 11th NOVEMBER 1899,

EXETER UNITED 5, DAWLISH 0,
At St James's Park,

Scorers
Exeter:- Mermogen 4, Roberts,

Owing to all the recent heavy rain, the ground was very slippery. The visitors kicked off with the wind in their favour, and at once went to the home goal, where they forced a corner, The centre from the flag was cleared by Bailey, Mermogen and Potter then indulged in a clever round of passing, backed up by Coles, and the leather reached Holman (goalkeeper) whose kick was met by Roberts, who had hard lines in not scoring, A little later Pickering transferred to Potter, who after some pretty dribbling sent to Mermogen, who notched the first goal for the United. The Dawlish men then pressed for a bit, and Lamacraft tried his best to beat Bailey and Thompson, but to no avail, Mermogen scored two further goals to give Exeter a 3-0 half time lead, Immediately upon resuming Dawlish pressed, but were driven back, and although Lamacraft and Knapman were both playing a sterling game in defence, Roberts, Kemble and Mermogen were too clever for them, Roberts got possession from Harvey, and sending out to Kemble, that player got possession and centred beautifully, Mermogen dashed up and shot well into the corner of the net. Just before time Roberts received from Potter and after making a dash through the centre scored with a strong left foot shot,

Scorers
Exeter:- Kemble 2, Thompson, Pierce,
Y,M.C.A. Marks,

Played at St James's Park before a good gate. The Newtonians turned out in good strength, but the Exeter representatives had to take the field without Mermogen. The play in the first half favoured Newton, and the absence of Mermogen was keenly felt by Exeter, whose attack was feeble. Marks scored for Newton after a poor bit of play by Bailey, In the 2nd half United showed great improvement, In a combined attack the ball was sent into the net by Kemble amid great enthusiasm, Exeter follwed this up with more aggressive play, but Potter spoilt one nice movement by getting offside, Roberts then centred to Kemble who scored a 2nd goal for Exeter with a very hard shot that had Crossbafled. After a triky bit of play by Thompson that player put in a hard shot from a difficult angle, and with the visiting back baulked by the goalkeeper, the 3rd goal was notched in the Exonians favour. A little later Bailey secured and sent to Coles, who by a well judged kick landed the leather into thegoalmouth, and Pierce, conveniently placed and seemingly to his own surprise headed into the net. The Newtonians tried hard to the end of the game to get another goal, but Morrison, Bailey and Thompson were unbeatable in the defence of the United. The match ended in semi-darkness,

OAKFIELD ATHLETIC 1,

Exeter:- Kemble, Coles, Harvey.
Oakfield Smith,

Both teams were very much in a weaker state than usual, and several substitutes had to be found, Oakfield kicked off in a heavy deluge of rain and after a series of high kicks in midfield, Coles raced away on the left scoring the first goal for Exeter from an easy position,, A spell of midfield play followed, both pairs of backs being too strong for their opposing forwards. After Wallage had missed two chances provided for him by Harvey, a free kick was awarded to the Exonians from which Kemble scored. The Athletic applied pressure, and Hookway securing possession of the ball gave to Mills, who shot across the face of Exeter's goal. From play in midfield Green brokethrough and passed to Smoith who found the net for Oakfield in splendid style. The opening stages of the 2nd half was decidedly in favour of Exeter, but another penalty was unproductive, Dean a substitiute, played a splendid game for Oakfield, and Carter was kept busy for a time with some spirited visiting attacks, Cole dribbled the ball through Dakfield territory and passed to Harvey, who scored Exeter's 3rd goal. Carter played a grand game in goal for the United,

Chard:-Kirkpatrick,

Before a very meagre attendance at St James's Park, the United team underwent several changes from last week. The weather was the worst possible kind, prolonged heavy rain making the ground a swamp of water and mud. The visitors opened up the hill in the first half, and took up the attack, but this did not last long. The United forwards came away in good style and Potter sent in ahard shot which Lawrence saved, Hancock initiated a rush, and passed to Moore, who shot right into Morrison's hands,

On the change of ends, play was faster and of a more exciting nature, Potter and Wallage making several dangerous rushes, but Wheaton each time relieved with huge kicks, From one of Wheaton's kicks, Kirkpatrick gained possession and racing Bailey opened the scoring for Chard, Coles equalised by a penalty kick after Mermogen had been fouled,

The visitors started down the hill, and the ball was taken into the Exeter territory, but Bailey relieved, and Spencer kicked well forward to Saunders, who missed the net by inches, Play hovered in the visitors half, and Saunders again missed the target by a very narrow margin, Gilpin gained a corner for St Johns and Marks sot overthe bar, Soon afterwards Donald Coles received the ball in a favourable position and shot United's first goal, The game was level up to the interval but 5 minutes after the resumption Roberts added another goal for Exeter. The remainder of the game was fought out in the St Johns half of the field, and an additional 5 goals were netted for Exeter by Luke, Saunders, F. J. Harvey, P. Harvey and Roberts. DAWLISH 1.
EXETER UNITED 2,

Scorers
Dawlish:- Hellier,
Exeter:- Saunders, Coles,

Exeter were strongly represented, but Dawlish were without two of their regular players, one halfback and one back, Dawlish suffered a reverse from Exeter United after a long run of successes. The game was very fast at times, but none of the class usually associated with these clubs, too much talking being indulged in by the players of both sides. Exeter kept their goal intact in the first half, although heavily pressed, and the Dawlish forwards got away splendidly although they failed at close quarters. At the other end Holman saved well from Coles, Dawlish with the slope in their favour in the 2nd half, took the lead through Hellier, but Saunders and Coles scored for the United,

SATURDAY 24th MARCH 1900,

SATURDAY 31st MARCH 1900.
