Exeter:-  Bemmer, Martin.
Dawlish:- Not Known

The match was played at St James's Park, but there were very few present to watch the play. Both teams were strongly represented, Exeter being the stronger due to the fact that the first team's match with Wellington had been cancelled, Play opened fast, but was unmethodical, there being not enough combined football, and too much independent play. Dawlish were superior in the front rank, and Exeter's backs on several occasions were the saviours of their side, The Dawlish goalkeeper saved from Kemble, but afterwards leta shot from Bemmer go through. The 2nd half opened in favour of Exeter, but a corner kick to Dawlish followed as the result of a fast rush by their forwards, This was cleared, but a penalty was given for hands in front of the Exeter goal which was successful, and equaled the score, Exeter then pressed and from Bemmer's centre, Martin received and sent the ball right in the corner of the net,

Newton were well represented, but the United started one short, Brownlow failing to turn up. The home supporters were glad, however, to see Simmons playing once more for the United in his old place as goalkeeper. The game was started by Exeter, but Newton immediately went on to the attack, A free kick to Exeter proved of great advantage and they only missed scoring through a fine relieving kick on the part of Pochin, Things looked dangerous for Newton, when from a corner F, Harvey lobbed the ball right into their bal mouth, but Foss punched out, Roberts passed splendidly to Bemmer, who lost a good chance through delaying too long, Bemmer scored for Exeter from Pidgeon's pass, Pidgeon was later conspicuos for a fine dribble, completely baffling Pochin, and passing forward to Bemmer, who kicked with excellent judgement to Roberts on the other side of the field, Roberts rushed to meet the ball, and with considerable pluck headed a fine goal, Fast play continued until halftime, when Exeter led by 2-0, Martin, Bennett and West displayed fine ideas of attacking play for Newton upon the restart, and Hogan was conspicuous with some hard tackling, though his clearance kicks lacked direction, Exeter at length got the best of matters and Newton appeared to be tiring towards the finish, After constant pressing, G, P, Harvey got possession and dribbled through to the Newton goal, finally giving to Bemmer, who scored a very simple goal,

A large number of spectators attended, but the match was not a pleasant one, and too much fouling was resorted to during the closing stages, It appeared that the bad feeling which as aroused, was chiefly on account of the Referee being a student. The College kicked off, but Exeter quickly got possession, and Roberts and Kemble took the ball up the right wing, but could only put it behind the goal, Bayley and Henson then dribbled away and centred but Simmons fisted out. Eventually a long kick down the field by one of the backs gave the College forwards possession and Edgehill landed the first goal, Kemble missed two chances for Exeter through selfish play, and Simmons was again put on his mettle by Powe and Bayley. In the 2nd half the United made a better impression taking good advantage of the wind, which was now in their favour. The Collegians, however, cleared, with Tranter conspicuous in their defence. A rush by the College forwards put the ball over the line, but as no whistle went, Powe brought it into play again, and centred for Edgehill to score what was undoubtedly an unfair goal, Powe then scored again, being palpably offside, but despite the appeal by Exeter, the Referee gave a goal, Play deteriorated towards the close, too many fouls being made, and the United players were somewhat dispirited on account of the College's 2nd and 3rd goals,

The first League match of the season was played between these teams at St James's Park, Owing to the rain the ground was very slippery, and this had a detrimental effect on the play. Exeter won the toss and Frost started the ball for Dawlish, A hot attack was set up by the visitors until Simmons relieved with a long kick, Exeter then broke away and reached the dawlish goal, Coles centreing splendidly, and Holman kicking clear. The United persisted in their attacks and Harvey goaled. Directly afterwards Holman fisted out from Harrison, who seized the leather from the goalkeeper's clearance, and netted a 2nd goal for Exeter United. The United were now havinbg the best of matters, and Coles added another point, shooting low to the corner of the net. In the 2nd half Bailey took the ball up the field and tried a long shot which Holman negotiated, and Coles shot wide with only Holman to beat, The Dawlish forwards now began to combine well together, and a pretty dribble by Simmonds took play to the home, territory, but Simmons the home custodian, made a capital save. After a lengthy spell of pressureby Exeter, Harrison received right in front of goal, and getting the better of Knapman and Holman shot the leather in beautifully. The remainder of the game was uneventful,

There was a big crowd of spectators, mostly composed of soldiers, The game was of an exciting and fast character from beggining to end, but the soft ground and the heavy nature of the ball was a deterrent to clever individual play. In the first half Horner made an unsuccessful attempt to score, the ball hitting the crossbar and rebounding into play.  The United continued to press, however, and were soon rewarded for their efforts, Harrison completing fine piece of work by himself and Laing, Both sides attacked in turn, and at the interval the score was 1-0 to the United. Soon after the restart Harrison again scored after a smart bit of dribbling. The game remained very even for some time, but eventually the Artillery obtained a goal, Sissle placed the ball to the middle, Harvey hesitated, and was lost, Shapter dashing in to head into the net, Close on the call of time, the Artillery made a good final effort and Acott centred well for Steele to send into the net,

United in the opening half had the advantage of playing down the hill, but this was more than countered y the strong sun which prevailed, Severaygood chances were missed by both teams in the first half and nothing was scored. Shortly after the restart Gilbert opened the scoring for Exeter United and Palmer notched a 2nd goal. After this the College played up for all they were worth, and in the closing stages Bloomfield scored a goal for them,

These old rivals met for the 2nd time at the College today, one of the finest expositions of Association Football in these parts being witnessed, The United had their strongest team on the field, the College also being fully represented. From the first, United had the best of matters, and it would be hard to individualise in commenting on their good play, for all seemed to be on their best form, Harrison put through the United's first score and quickly repeated the performance, and before the call of half time, Stevens and Coles each added a goal,

In the 2nd half the Collegians seemed to lose all heart, or else became fagged out, and Exeter had some good shooting practice. Moore, Tranter and Stone worked very hard in defence, but they could not prevent Stevens adding 5th goal with a brilliant screw shot, Before the finish Horner scored the final with a well judged shot, Just prior to the long whistle, a mistake by Kemble resulted in Warren scoring the Collegians first and only goal,

Vigour characterised this League Association match, which took place in foggy weather. The United had to take the field without Simmons and Coles, two of their strongest men, Ashford and Luke deputising. The visitors set the ball in motion, but the Exonians soon got down to their opponents territory. Horner and Stevens making creditable attempts to score, Steele, King and Chaplin then went off well into the United's  half, but Ashford ran out and saved splendidly. Theplay continued to be of a very hard character, and Exeter missed chances through wild shooting, King rushed through the soldiers first goal, and as frequently the case the military men endeavoured to score many goals, and as a consequence much rough play was relevant, This, however, was well looked after by the Referee, and though he made himself unpopular with the military element among the spectators, his cautions were well deserved, and correct, Two penalty kicks were awarded to Exeter for foule play. Luke both times Failing to score, Steele who played a good game for his side, landed the 2nd goal for the Royal Artillery. In the 2nd half play became if anything faster and certainly rougher. Luke scored for Exeter following a combined movement, Having been twice previously cautioned by the Referee, Steele was ordered off the field, and there was at least one other R,A, who deserved similar treatment. Luke added a further two goals to equal the score,

Both teams were very weak, the United only having 6 of their regular players, whilst the Battery played one man short throughout, it was however, a well contested game at St James's Park, but the match was very slow from the spectators point of view, The United commenced operations, and the visitors, who were a man short, had a difficult task in preventing any goals being scored against them. They succeeded however, by good defensive play in preserving their Citadel for about a quarter of an hour, when Gilbert sent in a fine shot, after a pretty piece of work by Harrison, Even play followed until half time, After this it was simply man versus man for the ground was so bad that combination was out of the question. From a forward rush Heath sent in Exeter's next goal intothe net, and then Gatterall scored for the R, A,

A fast and exciting game was contested at St James's Park, both sides played with commendable dash, and in the first half the visitors seemed to have the best of matters, crossing over with one goal to their credit against none by Exeter, Heath equalised soon after the change of ends, and after much attacking had been indulged in by both sides the game ended in a draw of three goals each. Heath was responsible for Exeter's goals, and Chudley scored for St John's, Luke accidentally put through his own goal, trying to stop a shot by Baker,

The wind was at its most boisterous, and the ground wet and slippery following recent rains, Exeter kicked off, pressed strongly and Tommy punched out a shot from Wallage. Torquay with the wind in their favour got to the centre, but Exeter showed superior combination and worked their way to the visitors goal, Bailey just missing with a hot drive. Toms and Pitts dribbled the ball out of danger, and for a time play remained in Exeter's half of the field, where Bailey and Luke did some sterling work. Exeter eventually came out again, but play was most uninteresting owing to the slippery state of the ground, which in some places was entirely under water. Gilbert beat Tommey in a race for the ball and scored the first goal of the match, Shortly after Wallage kicked the ball across to Gilbert who scored again, The 2nd portion of the game was decidedly in favour of Exeter United, and within 5 minutes Laing scored from close up, Torquay were unable to make any headway against the gale, and a further goal was added by Wallage. Margrett, Gilbert and Laing rounded off the scoring and the game ended with Exeter running out easy winners.

The time announced for the commencement of the game between Exeter United and the 119th Battery at St James's Park was 3,15 p.m, but the visiting team had not shown up by 3,30 p.m. Shortly after this time a cyclist arrived from the Brracks with the news that the Battery were unable to raise a team and the match therefore could not be played. This was extremely unfortunate, as the United had a good team, which included Simmons, their old goalkeeper. A large number of spectators had congregated to see the match and their disappointment at its cancellation was evident.

After pressing for a lengthy time, Harrison took the ball along the line on the right in fine style, and Harvey jumping in at an oportune moment, passed to Gilbert, who beat Oldham with a screw shot, In the 2nd half the United, who were undoubtedly the heavier team, were the first to attack, but Harries with a fine clearance put the Crediton goal out of danger, Exeter had things all their own way, but Oldham brought off some remarkable saves, then Harries accidentally scored for Exeter, putting through his own goal a shot from Gilbert, Gilbert then scored twice more for the United,

The teams met before a small number of spectators. The College brought a weak team, as some of their players were injured. The game opened at a rather fast pace and the early exchanges were fairly even. Exeter kept up strong pressure for a while, the College backs being kept busy defending. Shots by Gilbert and Bailey were well handled by Moore, The United were held in check for a while, and Warren receiving a splendid centre from Edgehill put through nicely, A spell of midfield play ensued, during which a free kick gave Exeter no advantage, Then Margrett broke away and centred to Gilbert, who headed just over the net, Gilbert and Margrett scored for the United, but after several high kicks had been exchanged bythe backs, Warren scored for the Collegians and put them on level terms, In the 2nd half the College were far superior, the play of Exeter being very ragged as regards combination, Harrison and Gilbert sent in some good shots, but mostly wide,

The 2nd half opened at a fast pace and the Devons, combined well, taking the play into the Exeter half, but their shooting was rather weak, and G. Harvey was not troubled, The nearest they came to scoring was when a long shot by Mitchell was fisted out riskily by 6, Harvey, A ponderous rush by Bailey changed the venue, and good work by Hogan gave Wallage an opening, but the ball went straight into Sutton's hands.
