Team Bath (away)
MATCH REPORT
19th September 2004
Team Bath 7 Exeter City Ladies 3 SWWFL- Premier Division
This was a game of two halves, with City outplayed in the first one. Exeter, conceding an early goal, dropped their heads, which led to Team Bath dominating throughout. As a result of this, City were unable to create chances and spent most of the first half under pressure. This led to three further goals in the first half.
Exeter again conceded an early goal in the second half, but this seemed to spur them on. A late challenge from a Bath forward resulted in the loss of centre back Kellie Hall, who subsequently needed hospital attention. Hall was replaced by Nat Matthews and play continued.
City began to battle, and were finally rewarded with a goal through Stef Matthews whose good pressure on the keeper forced a mistake. City soon scored again with Jo Goldsworthy crossing a long range ball, for Stacey Pearson to cooly slot home. Bath replied with two goals before Goldsworthy was brought down in the penalty area, with Pearson converting the penalty.
Manager, Steve McLear, said: 'As with the Buckfastliegh game, we again left it too late to begin playing our football. Our players need to understand that the game is for 90 minutes not 45, and if we keep playing the way we are, our games will be over by half time.
What we need to realise is that half the team are new players, and it will take time for everything to gel together and I have full confidence in the players' abilities, that they will pull through this and start turning it around. We're only four games into the new season, nobody's pushing the panic buttons yet and I know that once we've achieved a win, and the players confidence is back to where it should be, things will improve.'
