Match 24
6th March 2005
Team Bath (home)

Sunday 6th March 2005

Exeter City Ladies 1 Team Bath 3

City Ladies were on the back foot from the whistle, and disappointingly allowed Team Bath to dictate the game. Bath attacked from the start, cramming 5 in midfield to put City under pressure, which was dealt with well for 35 minutes, before Team Bath then took the lead. City were unable to create any chances first half, as they struggled to maintain possession through sloppy play and poor concentration.

City came out in the second half and started brightly taking the game to Bath. They produced some neat passing football and dominated the first 15 minutes of the half, which resulted in the equaliser. Gina Court (photo)  broke down the right wing and put in a fine cross which was met by Jo Goldsworthy, who's superb backwards header left the 'keeper flapping.

This brought Team Bath back to life. They continued to press and managed toretain their lead, when a ball over the top caught the City back four flat footed. The game then evened out, with both teams pressing in periods. City were unlucky not to equalise once again when a cross from Tracey Cross was met by Jo Goldsworthy, who's powered drive forced a spectacular point blank save on the line by the Bath 'keeper. Tracey Cross herself then also came close, following a fine run and a drilled strike that went inches wide. Team Bath further increased their lead with a goal in injury time, against the run of play.

Manager Steve Mclear said "Although Team Bath are doing well this season in the league, this was a very disappointing performance for us today. I was hoping we would continue with the fine performance from the last game, but this did not materialise for the first half.
'In the second half we were a completely different team, but two basic mistakes cost us the game. We've got 3 important games coming up, where nothing less than nine points will be acceptable."
