Biographical Text
Will Aimson signed for Exeter City in January 2023 and was one of six signings in a busy transfer window. He made his debut against Charlton Athletic in February 2023 and made around sixty first-team appearances before moving to Wigan Athletic eighteen months later.
Will is the grandson of Paul Aimson (Manchester City, York City, Bury, Bradford City, Huddersfield Town, AFC Bournemouth and Colchester United) who settled in Christchurch, Dorset at the end of his playing career. After growing up in Christchurch himself, Will briefly appeared as a seventeen-year-old for Eastleigh in the 2011/2012 season before moving to Hull City in February 2014.
Without playing for Hull's first team Will had loan periods at Tamworth, Tranmere Rovers and Blackpool before joining Blackpool permanently in January 2016. At Blackpool he was part of the team that defeated Exeter City in the League Two play-off final in 2017. After his release from Blackpool at the end of the 2017/18 season Will agreed terms with Bury where, in 2019, he won promotion with the since-defunct club. Following the Shakers' demise, Will joined former Bury manager Ryan Lowe at Plymouth Argyle and remained at Home Park until June 2021 before signing a two-year contract with Bolton.
After playing thirty-six league games in eighteen months at Bolton, Will joined Exeter City in January 2023 on a contract through to the end of 2024/25. He scored his first goal for the club at Wycombe Wanderers on the opening day of the 2023/24 season and, playing regularly throughout the season (including 36 times in the league), scored in three away matches towards the end of the season including a late winner at Nothampton Town in April 2024.
Initially looking set to remain with the Grecians into 2024/25, Will was to leave St James' Park to sign for Wigan Athletic in July 2024 for an 'undisclosed fee'.
