League
Stoke Lane Athletic (Home)

Exeter City Ladies FC 7
Stoke Lane Athletic 1

On the back of the 5-2 win over Yeovil last week, City took on Stoke Lane Athletic in their first League match on Sunday having been promoted into the South West Womens' Premier Division. The match, held at City's home ground of Topsham Town Football Club, would give the Grecians their first glimpse of the calibre of opposition that they would face in this league.

Striker Helen Kukor opened the scoring just minutes into the match, taking the ball around the keeper and placing it calmly into the Stoke Lane net. Natalie Shenton followed soon after, checking inside from her left wing position and bending the ball in at the far post for
2-0. City were awarded a corner mid-way through the first half. Catherine Wright picked out Josie Copp in the box, to bury City's third. The game was going all Exeter's way, until they failed to clear a Stoke Lane corner, which found its way into City's net, 3-1. Steve Tully's side replied, applying pressure down the left side and gaining a corner. Kirsty Caunter's delivery was headed home by Shenton, driving down the middle. As the half time whistle approached, Kukor added her second after a fantastic squared ball from Lola Garcia Sanchez on the right wing. Manager Tully made one change shortly after the half time whistle, with Carla Staddon replacing Kukor. Sanchez created the first goal of the second half, taking the ball past two players on the right before squaring the ball for Caunter to tap in. Further substitutions saw Shenton replaced with Dani Garland and Sanchez replaced with Alex Spencer. City finished their onslaught with minutes to go. Keeper Maxine Coupe's throw out found left back Tamsin Braund. A ball down the line to Garland was threaded through to Caunter, who was through on goal. Caunter took the ball around the keeper to finish the scoring at 7-1.

This result places City at the top of the table, going into next week's home fixture against Frome. (Kick off 2pm)
