Oldland Abbotonians (h)
Exeter City Ladies FC 10
Oldland Abbotonians LFC 1
On the back of their Thursday night 6- 2 victory over Marine Academy Plymouth, City were looking to make it four league wins out of four when they faced Oldland Abbotonians at their home pitch at Topsham Town FC last Sunday.
City were slow getting off the mark but soon got going. Kirsty Caunter set up Exeter's first with a pass through to striker Lola Sanchez, who took the ball around the keeper and slotted it home. Caunter added a second herself, moments later, from close range.
Oldland Abbotonians clawed one back, when City's keeper hesitated to come for a ball slid through. Sanchez fired City further ahead, heading a Caunter corner in at the far post. Again City attacked with another similar goal coming when left winger Natalie Shenton (photo) headed home another Caunter corner. Then a throughball from Caunter allowed Sanchez to slot past the keeper to complete her hat trick. City's sixth came from captain Josie Cop who connected with a corner from fellow midfielder Catherine Wright.
The referee awarded City a penalty in the closing minutes of the half, when striker Sanchez was brought down in the box. Centre half Naomi Wilkins converted the resultant spot kick to finish the scoring 7-1 at the end of the half. Three changes were made early in the second half with Hannah Cox replacing Sanchez, Carla Staddon replacing Copp and Dani Garland entering the field for Caunter. The eighth goal for City came from a drive down the left from left-back Tamsin Braund whose cross was smashed in by right winger Helen Kukor. Cox added City's ninth, tapping in a cross from Kukor before the final goal of the match from City's Carla Staddon. Right back Meg Griffiths drilled the ball into Staddon just outside the box and she took a touch before curling it in at the far post.
City's 10-1 victory cements their position at the top of the South West Women's Premier Division, with a positive goal difference of 27!
