Shanklin Ladies 1
Exeter City Ladies 2

South West Women's Combination

Sunday 16th February 2014

A depleted Exeter City Ladies side, reduced in numbers through injury and illness, still managed to record a win from their trip to the Isle of Wight at the expense of the league's newcomers Shanklin.

Exeter started the brighter and went close when Helen Kukor fired just wide after being released by Corine Potts - but they were left trailing as a 60-40 challenge saw a lucky ricochet into the path of a Shanklin midfielder, who struck high into the net.

Shanklin defended stubbornly despite City growing into the game, though Lola Garcia Sanchez, Sophie Lou Simpson and Kukor all squandered chances. However the equaliser did come, with a touch of fortune - the flight of Tash Knapman's inswinging corner was misjudged and the ball found its way over the line.

Exeter pushed for a winner, but down the other end they had Dani Bradford to thank for a one-on-one save. A well-won free-kick allowed Marika Ghiglia to swing in a cross for City, and when the lines weren't cleared Knapman was on hand to score what turned out to be the winning goal with ten minutes remaining.

Exeter City Ladies:
Bradford, Potts, C.Wright, Ghiglia, Brooks, Sanchez, Barter, Knapman, Simpson, V.Wright, Kukor.
