South West Women's Combination

Exeter City Ladies claimed a big scalp by overturning league-leaders Swindon Town in Wiltshire, claiming a third straight away victory.  After a lively start by City, which saw Helen Kukor and Carla Staddon go close, Swindon began to grow into the game. Maxine Coupe - nominally retired by standing in for Dani Bradford between the posts - was having to be alert to pluck some testing corners out of the air, and centre-half partners Catherine Wright and Josie Copp were aerially dominant when Robins full-back Amy Baker got towards the byline. It was Leah Brookes that was pulling the strings for City in midfield  with a good range of passing, but goalmouth action was at a premium and it was goalless at the break. The home side tried to push for the opener in early after the break, and it was Exeter's stubbornness that allowed them to counter-attack and earn the Grecians an opener. Brooks made a vital interception and set Staddon away, and when Kukor was laid in she found the net through the goalkeeper's legs. However Town got back on terms through Baker, when a half-cleared corner was fired across the box and turned in from close range. But Kukor was giving the Swindon side a difficult afternoon and won a free-kick 20 yards out with the game into the final ten minutes - and captain Catherine Wright bent the dead-ball over the wall and beyond the goalkeeper to give City the lead once again, which this time they held onto until the final whistle.

Exeter City Ladies: Coupe, Potts, Copp, C.Wright, Ghiglia, Brooks, Barter, Garcia Sanchez, Simpson, Staddon (V.Wright), Kukor.
