Southampton Saints 3
Exeter City Ladies 1

Sunday 6th April 2014

Exeter City Ladies' undefeated run was finally brought to an end in Hampshire, as hosts Southampton Saints were 3-1 winners against the Grecians.

It looked as though the Grecian steamroller was going to continue when Vicky Barter put the visitors into the ascendancy with just four minutes played, expertly guiding her volley into the net.

City could have extended the lead through any of Kirsty Caunter, Tash Knapman or Helen Kukor - the latter of which making a swift return after getting whiplash the previous weekend - but instead the Saints drew level right before half-time with a goal that came against the run of play.

The equaliser gave Southampton the initiative, and a wind-assisted second goal from distance for the home side put them ahead. With Exeter chasing an equaliser, the killer blow came just before then end as it finished 3-1.

Ultimately it represented a disappointing result against a mid-table side for Exeter, bringing to an end to an excellent run of form since the turn of the year. However Corinne Potts and Leah Brooks particularly fought to the end and deserve a special mention for their attitudes.
