Biographical Text
Alan Grant made a handful of appearances for Exeter City in the early 1960s. He joined the club from Brighton & Hove Albion and later played for Eastbourne United amongst other clubs.
Alan was signed by Brighton and Hove Albion in April 1956 - after playing for Gosport Borough and also apparently being registered as an amateur with Arsenal - but was mainly a reserve team player at the Goldstone Ground making just one first-team league appearance.
Signing for Exeter City on a free transfer in June 1960 at the age of twenty-five, he made his league debut for the Grecians in the goalless draw at home to Workington on 22 October 1960. Playing just three more league games, with two of those towards the end of the season, Alan returned to Sussex in the summer of 1961 when signing for Eastbourne United. He had also featured for Exeter in a FA Cup replay against Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic.
A keen cricketer and tennis player with plans to become a painter and decorator, Alan saw out his football career with Lewes, Tunbridge Wells Rangers, Bedford Town and Salisbury.
