Menageries, Matches and Murder: An Early History of St James Park

Aidan Hamilton discusses the early history of St James' Park at a HLF Gathering Event - its early years as a field and pig pen, City's pivotal decision to join League football, which kickstarted the development of a proper stadium, and the First World War. He uncovers the many old names of St James' Park, the visiting shows and menageries, the various other sports that the grounds had hosted, and even the case of a gruesome murder.

This gives a sneak peak at some of the material developed for the 2017 Heritage Lottery Funded exhibition, The History of St James' Park, Home of ECFC.
