On Tuesday 31st January 1961, Mike Meredith, an 18 year old Welsh fullback whose transfer fee was a football, joined Exeter City on a months arrives trial. The young miner who had played all his football with Glamorgan Youth side Senghenydd, the club were keen for him to join city because they were sent a football five years ago by Exeter when they did not have a ball at all. They wrote to several clubs for help but City were the only one to reply.

On the 21st February 1961. Mike Meredith, went home to his local Senghenydd club, Manager Glen Wilson said that "the player had some potential but unfortunately he was not quite good enough"
