The quicker Exeter City can recover confidence and composure and settle down to a methodical game, the quicker the points will come. The narrow victory margin does not show the superiority that Brentford had, in the final 20 minutes City's defence had a gruelling timeThat the rearguard survived this pressure was due almost entirely to the appaling series of missed chances by the Brentford forwards, rather than by Exeter's own frantic endeavours,

City should have grabbed a point in the final minutes as Churms pounced on a neat pass and promptly sent the ball whistling aimlessly wide from an easy close in positionWing half Simpson tried hard to inspire his colleagues into a cohesive force and it was a tragedy when he gave aaway a goal which cost two points in the 12th minute when Newcombe's low cross was cracked into his own net by Simpson when trying to clear.. There was cetainly no reason for dismay in the Exeter ranks at the interval, they had shown a marked superiority being much faster to the ball and much more strong and determined in the tackle, Slowly however, Brentford took charge in the second half and the pressure mounted steadily panic began to spread through the Exeter ranks.
