Attrndance 9,467,

The first home point for City should be the first of many, if City's full blooded fighting form is continued. Exeter's vigerous young team took a while to settle down, then as they gained in confidence, their vitality and tenacity shook the Southampton team, There is no doubt that Southampton were the cleverer classier team, but they hardly had the chance to prove it, so ferocious was the City tackling, so hard the chasing of every ball,

City manager Bill Thompson must have had his happiest weekend since joining the club after watching his youth gamble pay off, In the team we had four 20 year olds, Foley, Butterworth, Hill and Robinson, The latter had a superb game, Four youngsters of whom City can be proud. Southampton opened the scoring after 33 minutes, Roper netting following a free kick, Five minutes into the second half Hill nipped forward to equalise after another free kick, 63 minutes and Southampton were in the lead again, a cross from Paine cracked in by Hoskins. The lead lasted three minutes however, Calland slamming a low shot home from Wilson's corner. In the 88th minute Bell made a magnificent save from a Hoskins penalty kick,

  • CITY'S BID FOR A GOAL GETTER FAILS.
Exeter City's bid to sign a 24 year old Worcester City forward Harry Knowles has failed because the player has domestic responsibilities in the Midlands and cannot move, City had agreed to pay a substantial four figure fee, Knowles scored 43 goals last season.

  • CURRIE ON TRANSFER LIST. Jim Currie Exeter City's leading goal scorer last season has been placed on the transfer list at his own request with great reluctance by the City directorsHe wants a move North, purely because of domestic reasonsRochdale have shown an interest in him this season,
