Not until the last half hour did City crack at the Den, then Millwall whipped in three goals to win by a margin that was as flattering to them as it was unfair to City, Purely on style, method, speed and spirit, Exeter were vey bit as good as Millwall, it would have been unjust had they taken a point, Indeed they caused much misery around the ground at half time, for in the last ten minutes of the first half they not only looked like not being beaten, but showed signs of winning. Whereas Millwall's forward play gained an edge after the restart, Exeter's remained ineffectual, This was a pity because the attack was well led by Calland, but apart from one or two efforts by hmself the other forwards were reluctant to shoot, City had a lucky escape in the 25th minute when Foley lobbed the ball over Bell, Harvey raced back and with a tremendous overhead kick hit the ball off the underside of the bar and back into play. Robinson was equally unlucky to see his shot cleared off the Millwall goalline, Millwall scored the first goal in the 60th minute through Roche, Seven minutes later Shepherd made it two, then four minutes from time City's defence was guilty of slack marking allowing Rawson to run on and make several yards to score Millwall's third.
