The City fighters who battled quite successfully against some of the Third Division's top teams were washed out in the drizzle against the bottom of the table Gillingham, This was without doubt City's worst display of the seasonGone was the fire and fury which was City's biggest asset, Instead a drab, demoralised City team gave Gillingham a cock of the walk look as the Kent side blasted their way to their first away points with long controlled passing and determined challenging.
Gillingham took just 20 seconds to score when Morgan put his team ahead from Paynes centreCity equalised in the 31st minute when Calland beautifully headed in a corner taken by Churms and to give them their dues they had Gillingham worried stiff on a couple of occasions, having one shot cleared off the line and shots from Calland and Wilsn well saved by Brodie, Five minutes either side of half time Gillingham made certain of the points, in the 40th minute Clark was allowed Hutton centred to Payne to leave him with the easiest of chances and in the 50th minute time to pull down a corner and pick his spot for Gillingham's third goalThe City deservedly lost a game which saw several weaknesses highlighted in the team,
