Match 14

Colchester (a)

SATURDAY 12th OCTOBER 1957.

CITY HAD THEIR SPELLS AT COLCHESTER.

COLCHESTER 3,

EXETER CITY 0
Hunter; Foley, Mitchell; Butterworth, Harvey, Simpson; Rees, Currie, Calland, Churms, Robinson,

Scorers  Colchester McCurley, Plant 2.

Attendance 7,930.

City badly need an injection of new playersespecially forwards, this became increasingly obvious after this latest defeat, yet ironically enough' in spasms City did' alright. At times they had the Colchester defence panic stricken so much that they were miskicking even the simplest of clearances. City did not have a forward who looked capable of penetrating that wall of panic, despite the rapid switches which had players in two or three positions, A forward with a shot just did not exist, in fact the majority of the goal efforts came from the wing halves Butterworth and Simpson, The other weakness in the team was defensive, Harvey had his worst game for a while and often Simpson was left stranded by the speedy Colchester forwards, The Hunter-Foley-Mitchell trio was good enough and they could not do much about the three goals which beat them, by McCurley in the 21st and by Plant in the 25th and 52nd minutes, Rome was not built in a day and Exeter's team is not going to be built with one signing they need several,
