Exeter City have now the worst defensive record in the Third Division, The goals against figure has now clicked not so merrily up to 45 and five of them came in this game, What a defeat they scored four times, enough to win most away games but not for City. They were a goal down in the first minute, when McMillan scored for Watford. Within the next 29 minutes City had bult up a 3-1 leadDebutant 20 year old Rapley had scored twice and Rees added the third,
Before half time however, Watford had pegged City back to 3-3, McMillan and Walker the scorersThe same two players each scored in the second half to make it 5-3 before City's youngest ever debutant Trevor Atkins, 18 years and 112 days old made it a day to remember by scoring City's fourth goal,
He was a worthy member of City's most dngerous forward line of the seasonThe City defence however, was another story, the weakness started in the middle, Harvey had no answer to centre forward Cook, John had one of his worst games and neither wing half helped very much to give City the midfield control that they needed.

Exeter City Reserves v Tonbridge
Tonbridge, although enjoying a big share of the play, could not finish off their good approach work at St. James's Park, Exeter, where they became the City Reserves' first victims at home in the Southern League.
Dylwyn Hill, Exeter's leading goal scorer, showed his class to add two more goals to his list with headed efforts. Skuse, an amateur from Tiverton, scored Exeter's other goal. Tonbridge altered their team somewhat and Exeter tried out an "A" team player, M. Palmer, aged 17, at left back. They made other changes to bring in Hill as leader of the attack vice Ted Calland (ex-Torquay Utd.) who was unwell, with Ian Grinney and David Robinson (the latter dropped from the first team-both local lads-at out side right and inside left respectively.
Tonbridge' defence was alert to Exeter's opening breaks on the right, good runs by Grinney, Beer and Wilson being cut short. Tonbridge probed down the middle but this move failed, and Grinney was sent away to cross a menacing ball which Tonbridge centre-half Leonard cleared with a clever overhead kick. This sent Tonbridge into the attack again on the left and they gained a corner. Ball's flagkick went to Dunne but his shot was saved by Exoter's transfer-listed Scottish 'keeper, George Hunter. Next Bernard Hunkin-reappearing on his old ground. this time as Tonbridge's goalkeeper, dived on the ball to cheat the onrushing Hill. After Foley, Exeter's Irish right back, had checked a lively move by Ball and Roberts, Ball sent Payton away for another try. His cross-pass was kicked out of the goalmouth by Packer. But Tonbridge were in full cry now and Exeter were relieved when Ball twice sliced his goal-attempts wide, and sain when Foley cleared Golding's cross which went past an empty Exeter goalmouth. Then Walsh missed two good chances by firing wide in further Tonbridge assaults. Ball, too, headed outside. Tonbridge were lucky when a 30-yard free kick by Waterman went right across their goalmouth, headed a and next Hill Waterman centre right into Hunkin's hands. Hunkin rescued the visitors when he got there first to a long ball chased by Hill. Robinson delayed his shot to miss a chance for Exeter, but three minutes before half-time Exeter forced two corners from the second of which HILL healed a beautiful goal from a Grinney flag kick. Immediately the game started from the second half SKUSE made it 2-0 from a scramble in front of Tonbridge's goal. The visitors were paying for their earlier tardy and inac- curate finishing. But they never gave up the hunt and Exeter had to beat off a succession of attacks before retaliating with a Robinson- Skuse sortie. This time Skuse fired wildly wide. Payton went away on a mazy dribble in which he beat lour opponents before Waterman robbed him of the ball. On a pitch which cut up after recent fog and overnight and Saturday morning rain, play became scrappy for a while. Then HILL flashed in Exeter's third and final goal with a flying header which went in off the cross-bar. Both goals had further nar- row escapes as the teams cut and thrust, with Tonbridge still a danger-until it came to the crucial point of finishing. Golding was unlucky when he beat Hunter only for his shot to bounce off the bar. As he had done just before half-time when he was assisted off after colliding with Leonard, Colin Beer, Exeter's right half, went off the field for treatment just before the final whistle. He had a cut eye but resumed
