CITY HAD GOOD FIRST HALF.
SOUTHEND 2.
EXETER CITY 0
Bell; Foley, MacDonald; John, Harvey, Mitchell; Rapley, Churms, Nicholls, Rees, Dale,
Scorers Southend McCrory 2
Attendance 4,000,
Twice Mitchell saw his shots saved by Ronson by a matter of inches. Those fractions were how close City came to taking a point from Southend and breaking the run which has now extended to seven defeats on the trot following the latest reversal, Mitchell's shots were just some of the number of City efforts which looked like succeeding in the first half. The second period was a different story for City had only one shot of note,
For 45 minutes Exeter played well enough to have deserved to have been on terms or even ahead at the intervalAfter that they were out of the game more and more, Ten minutes before half time and five minutes before the end McCrory shot the two Southend goals,
Bell, Mitchell and Harvey were the City's best defenders, Dale was the man from whom most of City's probes came. The defence was strong if not classical and once the forwards clicked they did produce some delightful moves, working together as a line.
