After a very poor first half one glorious miss by Churms and one penalty miss by Torquay's Mills after Harvey had brought down Pym, City began to show that they were the better of two poor teams,

Five minutes after the restart Rapley wandered to the left and slammed City into the lead from Dale's pass, Mitchell scored number two in the 70th minute and Nicholls scored his first goal for City with ten minutes to go. Pym scored a consolation goal for Torquay in the final minute of the game,
