It's back to normal, or that's how it seems after City's hammering at Swindon, The City party travelled up full of hope, but they travelled back long faced and forlorn after a truly crushing defeat by a Swindon side which is by no means one of the best sides that City have played this season. They were a team of 100 per cent fighters, in contrast to City who dwadled, lost confidence and playing pit pat stuff which did not get them anywhere,

Swindon had blasted open City's defence to get four goals through Moore 2, Thompson and Richards before City retaliated in the 30th minute with their solitary goal from Churms. The home side were never lusting for goals so strongly after that, but they did get one further success in the 57th minute when Micklewright scored, Richards also had what looked a perfectly good goal disallowed,

City missed a couple of good chances in the second half, but they would have made little difference to the fact that City were well and truly hammered, One only hopes that City have not finally and irrevocably lost the confidence and ability that they displayed over the Christmas week,

CITY F. C. AND MANAGER TO PART.

Mr Bill Thompson manager of Exeter City F.C, for less than eight months has had his contract terminated by mutual consent, Thompson 36, became the City manager on May 13th last year after a two season spell as manager of Guildford City,

The decision to end Mr Thompson's period with Exeter came at a full board meeting last night, Chairman Mr A,S,Line said that he felt the position of the manager has become obsolete in modern football, Time which should be spent with the team is spent in the office and he intends to appoint a coach. There is no hint yet of when a new appointment is likely.
