Biographical Text
Jack Aitchison started his career at Celtic and, having previously been with Barnsley, joined Exeter City from Motherwell ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. He had also appeared on loan for a number of clubs most notably Forest Green Rovers for whom he played over eighty times in two separate spells. He scored his first goal for City after 24 seconds of his debut at Wycombe Wanderers.
Jack, who was aged twenty-three when he arrived at St James' Park, came through the Celtic youth system and even before he officially became a trainee made his first team debut against Motherwell in May 2016. Aged 16 years and 71 days he was the club's youngest-ever first teamer and celebrated the achievement by scoring the seventh goal in a 7-0 win. After this early success Jack was loaned to Dumbarton and Alloa Athletic before, as a nineteen-year-old, spending a season on loan with Forest Green Rovers where he was make 30 appearances in all competitions scoring on six occasions.
Only featuring twice more for Celtic since his debut, Jack moved to Barnsley on a permanent basis in October 2020 and was immediately loaned to Stevenage where he played 27 league and cup games. He then spent the 2021/22 season back at Forest Green on a similar basis featuring in every league game as the Gloucestershire side pipped the Grecians to the League Two title. In all, taking cup games into account, Jack's season at the New Lawn amounted to a total of 53 matches (7 goals) and, on his return to Oakwell, he made a somewhat belated Barnsley debut at Plymouth on 30 July 2022 and played regularly before joining Motherwell on a short-term contract in January 2023.
Appearing eleven times in all competitions for the Lanarkshire club, Jack had made over 160 first-team appearances for his various clubs (scoring 19 times) when he agreed a deal with Exeter City in July 2023.
He was one of eight players to make his Grecians’ debut in the win at Wycombe Wanderers on the opening day of the 2023/24 season and scored in the first minute of the game. Going on to make 37 league appearances during his first term with the club, Jack also scored against Barnsley, Wigan and Shrewsbury with all of his goals coming away from home.
Jack subsequenly agreed a new contract with City through to the end of 2025/26.
