Biographical Text
Netting eight times in the 1955/56 campaign Horatio 'Ray' Iggleden had a single season with Exeter City after scoring nearly fifty league goals in six years at Leeds United. He later returned home to Hull and played for Goole Town.
Playing for Constable Street Old Boys in Hull, Ray signed his first professional contract on joining Leicester City in March 1942. He went on to score two goals in eleven league outings before signing for Leeds United in January 1949 where he became a first team regular netting 47 goals in 169 league appearances.
After a broken arm kept him out of action for much of the 1954/55 season Exeter City paid £1,050 to bring Ray to St James’ Park in July 1955. Making his Grecians debut on the opening day of the season in a goalless draw against Colchester United, he had to wait until October 1955 before he claimed a regular place in the City side . Scoring eight league goals in the process he was nevertheless given a free transfer at the end of the 1955/56 season and returned to the Hull area where he played for Goole Town.
Ray Iggleden died in Hull in 2003.
