Biographical Text

Ron Jewell was a wartime guest player for Exeter City during 1944/45 when, as the situation eased, a number of games were organised to constitute the first football played by the club since 1939. He later made a solitary league appearance for Torquay United.

Ron had played for Exeter City Reserves before the war in February 1939.

An amateur with Plymouth Argyle during the war, he made his 'first-team' debut for the Grecians against the Devonshire Regiment at Weymouth in a match staged for Merchant Navy Week in April 1945.

Also appearing for Hele Spurs (Torquay), Ron signed a professional contract with Torquay United in September 1946 but only played one league match before signing for Dartmouth.

He died in 2000.
