Inside-Forward

Joe Gray was a potential professional for Exeter City who had travelled down from the North East to take part in the pre-season practice games shortly before the outbreak of war in 1939.

Hailing from Hebburn in County Durham, he had been with  Jarrow and Aldershot. After playing in the practice matches, he had appeared for City's reserves before the season was abandoned in September 1939 following the declaration of war in Europe.
