City had the services of Eveleigh, who was one of their best forwards till a few of years ago, when he removed to Portsmouth, and Aspey, of H.M.S."Victorious," which has on four occasions won the Atlantic Fleet Cup. The ground was very hard, and the new ball bounced about in very perplexing fashion. The City started with ten men, Aspey being late in arriving, and to begin with had none the best of matters, afterwards improving, however. Eveleigh was fouled in the penalty area but appeals by the City for a free kick were ignored by Mr Thompson.
St Michaels team:- A. Moore; A. Peters and E. Isaac; S.Isabell, S.Moore (captain), and A.Snell; F.Rouse, H.Bawen, E.Babcock, T. Lamb, and W. Lambie.
City team: - Vibart; E.Wells and Fenwick, Muncey, W. Wells, and E.Reid; Sellick, Turner, Thomas, V.Aspey, and Eveleigh.
Referee: Mr Thompson, of Tiverton.
Thomas opened the City's account with a good goal, and just prior to the interval Babcock equalised. Aspey and Sellick in the second half scored for Exeter, who won by 3 goals to 1.
1935.
Lamentably weak in defence and never combining as a team in attack Exeter City were beaten by six clear goals by Crystal Palace at St James's Park. The score in no way exaggerates the superiority of the Palace, who simply toyed with the Grecians in the second half. It is Exeter's heaviest home defeat of all time, and there is very little excuse to offer for the debacle.
