Pre season
Victorious City Ladies off to a flying start
Having won the Westward Development League One title last season and remaining undefeated, Exeter City Ladies have started their pre season campaign with a bang!
Having played Exmouth and Totnes & Dartington and winning both matches, City travelled to Cornwall to play teams several leagues higher. The first match saw the girls give Launceston a 9-0 thumping. On Sunday 16th August City travelled to Bude for what was expected to be their toughest pre-season game. After a few first half nerves, it was 1-1 at half-time. City's goal coming from a Gemma Ralph tap in. After a motivational team talk from manager Steve Tully and captain Kellie Hall at half time, together with a change of formation from 3-5-2 to 4-4- 2, the girls came out determined to get a result.
Naomi Wilkins was on form netting two in the first fifteen minutes, with City also rattling the cross bar and hitting the post twiceThe fourth goal came from a superb strike by striker Hannah Cox. One of City's latest signings, Carla Staddon, who has come up through the Centre of Excellence, netted the fifth by lobbing the keeper. Wilkins got the final goal of the game, with an amazing twenty yard strike, making the final score 6-1 to City.
The Ladies team continue to look to attract new players and further strengthen their squad. If you are aged 16+ and are a strong player wishing to join the team, please email Secretary Kellie Hall. Training is taken by Steve Tully and takes place in Exeter on a Monday night 7- 8.30pm.
In 2009/10, Exeter were playing in the Westward Developments Premier League.
There were seven new teams competing in the Westward Developments Devon League this season. Six new teams applied to join the league and all were accepted, whilst University of Exeter have returned from the South West League to make a total of 25 teams in all, meaning that the league continues to comprise of three divisions.
