MATCH REPORT

EXETER C. LFC 3-3 PLYMOUTH A. LFC

SUNDAY 18TH NOVEMBER 2012.

VENUE: TOPSHAM TOWN FC KICK-OFF: 2PM.

This was the return league fixture against Plymouth at City's home pitch of Topsham Town FC. In the previous outing City took the match in a thrilling 2-1 win to beat their rivals for the first time. With confidence high on the back of this victory and an unbeaten run since, City were determined to get a result in front of a big home crowd. With Plymouth in fourth and Exeter in fifth place in the South West Women's Combination League, this match had a lot riding on it! Plymouth started the stronger of the two teams with revenge in mind, dictating play from the outset, and took the lead on 20 minutes though a soft penalty kick which Rebecca Rose dispatched. City upped the tempo and through some great individual play former Argyle (and top Premier League goal scorer) striker Tash Knapman grabbed an equaliser. On the stroke of half time Plymouth scored again, with the Welsh international striker Natasha Harding, formerly of Bristol Academy, sweeping behind the defence to slot the goal into the back of City's net.

After a rallying team talk at half time, City came out as the more determined team in the second half. City started on the front foot, pressing the ball all over the pitch which forced Plymouth to make rash decisions and last-gasp tackles. It was no surprise Exeter scored again, as they dominated playWith some great link-up play involving Kirsty Caunter, Lola Sanchez and Knapman several interchanging passes saw Knapman turn Argyle's defence inside out and coolly put the ball past the Argyle keeper to make the game 2-2. This was definitely a game for the taking, with Argyle beginning to tire. City pushed hard but had to wait until the 80-minute mark before Sanchez smashed in a 25- yarder to put City in front for the first time in the match. A nail biting ten minutes ensued with end-to-end chances. In the 88th minute Argyle striker Emily Moseley smashed the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box to equalise. A cracking game neither team deserved to lose.
