Match 20
8th January 2012
Salisbury Town (h)
Exeter City LFC 5-0 Salisbury City LFC
Venue: Topsham Town Football Club
Sunday 8th January 2012.
After a close match the first time City met with Salisbury, beating them by just two goals, the Ladies were expecting a similar game. However, this was not to be as City dominated from the outset.
The Grecians opened the scoring in the first ten minutes when a corner kick from Catherine Wright enabled Lola Garcia Sanchez to head the ball into the back of the net. The ball stayed pretty much in City's possession with another goal following moments later. A brilliant pass by Helen Kukor found Kirsty Caunter who smashed the ball past the keeper.
Several near misses followed as Exeter peppered the Salisbury goal mouth. With sheer determination left winger Natalie Shenton delivered the third goal, taking the ball past three defenders. Salisbury looked rather deflated but did not give up and still pressed City's defence. Lola Garcia Sanchez scored her brace and City's fourth shortly before half time, slotting home a long ball in from Kukor. One spectator commented that, 'had that goal been in the Premier League, we'd have been shown it over and over again this weekend!'
The fifth and final goal of the game came from a 20 yard free kick by Naomi Wilkins, which found the top right corner. This 5-0 win brings. Exeter within just three points of league leaders Larkhall with a game in hand.
Manager Steve Tully praised the team. performance as the best he had seen in his time managing the the Ladies.
