Match Report

Marjon Old Suttonians (h)

Two seasons ago City saw themselves lose out on a league promotion place to Marjon Old Suttonians. In addition, they also put City out of the County Cup in the same year. This was the league match that the ladies had been waiting for to get one back on their rivals and they did it in style.

Amongst the spectators showing their support for City at this game, were Andrea Hayes (Adam Stansfield's sister), fiance Paul and Billy Jones and family.

Striker, Kirsty Caunter put City ahead after just five minutes with a great finish when Naomi Wilkins played her clean through. This was followed shortly after when right winger Natalie Shenton, having beaten three players, cut inside to score with a left foot shot. City were dominating play, having the majority of possession. Shortly before the half time mark, Shenton added her name to the score sheet for a second time, floating the ball into the far corner of the net.

The second half of the match saw City continue to dominate. A corner from Caunter was mis-judged by the Old Suttonians keeper and found its way into the back of the net. City's fifth goal and undoubtedly the goal of the match, followed shortly. City's keeper (having been a spectator for much of the game) rolled the ball out to right back Zoe Kingdon, who played the ball into the midfield players. A great interchange of play between central midfield players Sophie Anderson and Josie Copp, left Caunter in space to find Wilkins. Wilkins, who rarely misses an opportunity to score, blasted the ball into he top corner. The final goal of the match, was again the result of a Caunter corner, which curled straight in at the near post, to cement her hat-trick. A fantastic victory for City's ladies team, 6-0!
