Match 06
17th October 2010
Roche (h)
Exeter City Ladies FC v Roche Ladies FC
League fixture
Sunday 17th October
It was business as usual for the Ladies following the previous week's FA Cup disappointment, with a league fixture against Roche Ladies FC at their home ground of Topsham Town Football Club. After two minutes, some sloppy defending and a goalkeeping error saw City trailing by one goal to nil. The Ladies were quick to rectify their earlier blunder, when a through ball from Naomi Wilkins was smashed home by stiker Kirsty Caunter. City added their second shortly after. Winger Natalie Shenton took the ball past several Roche players and struck it cleanly into the far corner of the net. Right winger Hannah Cox added her name to the score sheet within minutes, lobbing the Roche keeper from ten yards. City's fourth resulted from a corner taken by Cox, calmly slotted home by Caunter, pushing her goal tally to two. Moments later and Cox struck again, after a goalmouth scramble. Just prior to the half-time whistle Caunter found striker Helen Kukor in space and she slotted the ball home to make it 6-1 Home to make it 6-1. Manager Steve Tully decided to make several changes at half time. Left back Emma Jones, striker Helen Kukor and midfielder Josie Copp were replaced by Zara Turner, Carla Staddon and Alex Spencer respectively.
City began the second half, determined to extend their lead still further. A Shenton cross found Caunter, who struck the ball past the keeper within moments of the kick off. City were awarded a corner mid way through the half. The Roche clearance fell to Staddon who smashed the ball into the top of the net from just outside the box. Caunter finished off the scoring with a low drive into the bottom corner.
The game concluded 9-1 to City!
