Exeter lost 2-1 at Wimbledon. After gaining an early lead Exeter lost Roy McDonough, who was sent off following an off-the-ball incident involving Wimbledon skipper Gary Peters in the 30th minute. McDonough had been booked for dissent five minutes earlier by Northampton referee Dennis Brazier, who also took the names of five other players adding to the tension of a sometimes scrappy game.

Brian Godfrey died at the age of 69 in hospital in Cyprus after a long battle with Leukaemia.
