Although there were no goals in the pre-season practice match played at St James' Park between the Red and Whites and the Blue and Whites, Exeter City were concerned about the the subject of glass. It was reported that broken glass would be a big item of expenditure in the club accounts if the present rate of consumption was continued. A plate glass window had been shattered in a house in St James' Road, and a street lamp was broken, the wayward shots coming from Wilf Devlin and Jasper Green respectively! It was suggested that shooting practice be top of the agenda for the City players as they strove to improve accuracy!! Meanwhile new signing from Fulham, inside forward Harold Crockford, had moved into a house at Broadclyst, as he reckoned it would be the perfect location to pursue his hobbies of fishing and shooting (of a different kind!).
1945
The European Services Baseball Championship final was staged at St James' Park and drew an attendance of around 1,500 to the game. The American Army from France outclassed and defeated the U.S. Navy side from Exeter by 10 runs to nothing. Exeter City were busily trying to assemble a team for the forthcoming season in what were still difficult circumstances following the war years. Three service players signed forms for the club, Murray and Baxter of the Royal Marines and Casey of the Royal Navy. Murray had played for Shawfield Juniors in Scotland before. the War and Baxter had appeared for Bradford Park Avenue in 1939. Casey came to the club on the recommendation of City player Steve Walker, with whom he was stationed in the Navy. City's first game was at home to Swindon Town and they were to include three guest players, Joslin (Torquay United), Rich (Stockport County) and Mitcheson (Ipswich Town).
1952
Exeter City supporters were reminded that increased admission charges to St James' Park for the opening home fixture of the season against Queens Park Rangers in the Third Division South would be introduced. Fans would now have to pay one shilling and ninepence to gain admittance to the terraces. The increase did not have an effect an the attendance as over 15,000 spectators turned up to witness a 2-2 draw
1959
Exeter City chairman George Gillin is seeking to fulfil the ambition of gaining promotion to the Third Division, Gillin said:- "May I wish you all full enjoyment and a healthy interest in the City side. Our ambitions for the season are easy to declare but may prove difficult to fulfil, but supporters are assured that the board with the co-operation of the management, training staff and players, strive to attain the goal which we so narrowly missed last season, promotion to the Third Division. "The playing pitch has never been in better condition and I am sure you will all wish to join paying tribute to the groundsman on the results of his hard work during the close season. With limited resources we have carried out some much needed and overdue repairs to the covered terraces and enclosure seating. Many improvements have been made to enhance the appearance of St James' Park."
1965
The Grecians Association and the Supporters Club announced that they were to amalgamate. The Grecians. were formed in 1944 whilst the Supporters Club were a relatively new organisation having been in existence for just 13 months. The new body was to be known as the Exeter City Supporters Club incorporating the Grecian Association, which meant there was a total membership of 7,500. The committees of both organisations would continue to work separately, but three members of each would sit on the others committee. The amalgamation was described by the Grecians chairman as one that would be beneficial to all supporters and the future of Exeter City Football Club.
1976
Within six hours of putting the tickets on sale, Exeter City had sold out for their forthcoming Football League Cup second round tie against Norwich City at St James' Park. City secretary Pat Wakeham said: "There has been a fantastic response for tickets. The ground tickets went on sale for the first time this morning and there was a big queue of supporters waiting outside the Near Post selling point. There are 14,000 tickets available for various points around the cityThe ground will be segregated with each entrance having a different colour and this means supporters must use the entrances stipulated on the tickets"
Meanwhile City's talented midfielder Lammie Robertson had flown back to England to rejoin his team mates, having been playing in the United States for Chicago Stings.
