Rovers Coupe for City

Exeter City Ladies eased their relegation fears with a gutsy 1-0 win over Forest Green Rovers at Cullompton Rangers' Speeds Meadow headquarters on a cold and windy afternoon on Sunday.

City, boasting a strong Mid Devon contingent, took a step nearer survival in the South West Combination Women's Football League thanks to Becky Folds' strike just seconds before half-time.

The persistent Folds, formerly of North Molton, raced onto a long free-kick from Tiverton's Josie Copp and after her marker failed to clear, she lobbed the ball over the stranded keeper from 20 yards.

Exeter applied most of the pressure before that but despite a succession of corners, the hosts were unable to find the net. The best openings fells to Hemyock's Emma Redwood, who saw a drive rebound off the post, and Folds, whose control let her down when through one-on-one with the keeper.

The Gloucestershire mid-tablers had the majority of the play and a number of chances in the second half but couldn't find a way past in-form keeper Maxine Coupe, who made a couple of fine stops.

Steve McLear's side held on for their second successive victory, on the back of their 2-1 triumph at fellow strugglers Yeovil Town last weekend.
