Biographical Text

Alex Byrne, a central midfield player, made a handful of first-team appearances in 2016 and 2017 before joining Weston-super-Mare.

Alex was a good example of the player progression pathway Exeter City. After joining the Barnstaple advanced development centre at under-9, he moved to the academy as an under-11 before becoming a scholar/trainee on leaving school in 2013.

After a successful loan spell at Weston-super-Mare during 2015/16, Alex made his league debut against Hartlepool in August 2016 quickly followed by an appearance in the EFL Trophy. He was then loaned to Truro City before subsequently making a further four league and cup appearances early in 2017/18 prior to being released at the end of the season. He then signed on a permanent basis for Weston-super-Mare prior to moving to Bideford in 2019.

Alex was still playing for Bideford in 2022/23 and was a member of the Bideford team that defeated Exeter City to win the Devon St Luke’s Bowl in May 2022.
