Liam Cartwright, a defender from Torquay in the under-16 category, appeared for the under-18s in the opening fixture of the 2023/24 season against Swindon Town. Also featuring as a substitute in the club's FA Youth Cup tie at Hemel Hempstead Town in November 2023, he quickly became a regular member of the team for the remainder of the season.
