Haswell played for Exeter City in the Plymouth and District League before the club turned professional in 1908.

Appearing during a season in which forty-two players appeared for the team, he made his only appearance for Exeter City’s first-team against Green Waves (Plymouth) on 23 February 1907. Two other players made their solitary appearances for the club in this game.
