Eagles hit Town side for six

Cinderford Town's unbeaten run came to an end when Elmore Eagles made their first visit to Harrow Hill.

Cinderford looked the more confident side in the early exchanges. Midfielder Rachel Pitt was first into action with a couple of runs at the defence. Patsy Rutherford started another good move involving Kate Unsworth and Kate Preest, but Elmore's defence won the ball back. Gail Morris struck a shot wide while Stacey Smith's lacked the power to beat the goalkeeper. Jane Pollock got in some strong challenges when Elmore attacked and Hilary Isaac forced two players into shooting wide.

Elmore scored when a forward got into the area to meet a cross. A few minutes later a second goal came from a free kick, the ball rebounding off the bar, then headed in. Unsworth won a free kick at the other end. But Elmore won the ball and were quick breaking away to blast in a high shot for a three-goal lead. Morris and Smith both had shots saved, and as play switched ends goalkeeper Michelle Hyndman saved a point-blank shot. Elmore hit a ball through Town's defence for a forward to latch onto giving them a 4-0 lead at the interval.

Cinderford made some changes for the second half, Bev Miller replaced Unsworth, Morris dropped into midfield and Smith moved up front. Smith put a shot wide and provided a pass from which Preest hit the bar. Elmore's defence were winning the ball in the air from most of the crosses and had an efficient offside trap. Elmore added their fifth before Julie Windram came on to replace Ruth Pennington. Windram got a good cross in, but no one could quite get on the end of it. Nicky Cannock went on for Pitt, Emma Symonds moved up front and shot wide. Elmore's sixth goal was from a shot out wide, going in from a narrow angle. Cannock was beaten to a loose ball by the goalkeeper who also saved Preest free kick at the end.
