12th March
On this day in:-
1949
Exeter beat Notts County at home 3-1 their team included Tommy Lawton whose "effortless artistry and accurate passing together with his brilliant headwork and uncanny positioning will remain for a long time a cherished memory in the minds of those who saw the stirring contest between the Grecians and Notts County. There was class in everything Lawton did, but his genius could not transform Notts into a side with the promotion look."
1994
Jon Richardson makes his city. debut, away, against Wrexham.
2005
Exeter were beaten comprehensively by Nationwide South runaway leaders Grays , who won 4-1. Gary Hooper's low finish broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute, and Dennis Oli netted a quick fire second from a few yards, three minutes later. Oli made it three with a run and finish on 56 minutes, and though City pulled a goal back through Gareth Sheldon's powerful strike in the 88th minute, there was still time for Grays to add a fourth through Hooper's well-struck stoppage time drive.
