1955
There were early queues at St James's Park this afternoon, and well represented among the first arrivals were Bristol City supporters. Over one thousand of them travelled by two special trains. As many more came by road it looked a certainty that the gate for this West Country Derby' would be almost, if not, the record for the season. The attendance was given as 12111.
1968
Exeter beat Torquay at SJP. in the semi-final of the Devon Professional Bowl. Three goals in extra time meant city would play Argyle in the final.
1984
Exeter treble dream over.
EXETER LADIES' FC's treble dream faded when they were knocked out of the Pat Sowden Cup in the semi-finals by Keynsham. Exeter went down 3-2 and now pin their hopes on winning the Women Western Football League title and the League Cup. They were well on top against Keynsham in the first half and it was no surprise when they took the lead, a visiting defender. heading Julie Trott's cross past her own goalkeeper. Keynsham equalised from a free kick but Annie Hesketh restored Exeter's lead, finishing a fine team move, only to see the Avon side equalise again from the penalty spot. The winner came in the second period of extra time, again from a free kick just outside Exeter's penalty area.
