13th May
On this day in:-
1968
Exeter City played Plymouth Argyle in the Devon Professional Bowl Final. The final whistle went and immediately young supporters swarmed onto the pitch chanting - "We've won the Cup" - after Exeter had beaten their Devon rivals Plymouth Argyle. So after a dismal League season, City have one trophy on the shelf and there can be no doubt that they deserved their success. Argyle looked a poor side, but it was a good game to complete Exeter's season, and this was certainly a better City than what we have been seeing in recent weeks, Alan Banks struck first in the 35th minute with a well taken shot and again 20 minutes later, moving onto a rebound off the crossbar, following a shot from John Corr, City could have scored more, Banks missed two opportunities. Micky Fudge also had a couple of chances, he hit the post 3 minutes before half time, City's approach work was crisp with plenty of good runningExeter had St Lukes College player, Dave Collyer in goal but he had little to do,
